Inspired by an article from the Harvard Medical School, all exercise offers health benefits, and body-weight workouts have much to offer.
Convenience: You don't need a lot of equipment, and it can be done virtually anywhere. Making time, even for a few push-ups or stretches, can be low effort with lots of upside.
Intimidation factor: Removing the complicated machines, or the super fit people at the gym, helps keep the fear factor low, and may remove the anxiety barrier to working out consistently.
Functional exercise: Most body-weight exercises use many muscles at once rather than isolating muscles using machines or weights. Therefore, body-weight exercises are highly functional in nature using more muscles and joints, engaging your balance, which is in turn more practical for your daily lifestyle.
Good for your health. Literally dozens of studies show that the more you move, the lower your risks for heart disease, diabetes, obesity, multiple types of cancer, joint pain, inflammation, Alzheimer's, etc. Moving, and particularly Dance, lifts your mood, and can alter your state, reducing stress.
Lastly, I'm adding my own below, as our movement helps us develop and nurture our 5 Feminine Geniuses (aka your super powers):
Curve of Movement: moving with the flow of your curves, a non-linear, more feminine way of moving through the world.
Sensuality: heightens and enlivens all senses by being grounded and more present in your entire body.
Emote-ability: moving emotion through your body is so healthy, keeping it from getting "stuck" and toxic. Making peace with and accepting our emotional currents is a beautiful way to move through the world, inviting empathy, and breaking down barriers.
Communication and Connection: our ability to connect with our profound empathy and use non-verbal communication when dancing. Not to mention our unique power in community celebrating one another.
Intuition: The movement is a deeply mindful exercise which develops your sense of knowing and inner wisdom.
